Endocrine System Diabetes - Type 2

The most common of the generally occurring sugars. Glucose, also recognized as dextrose, grape sugar, and corn sugar, is found abundantly in such natural foods as honey, grapes, figs, and other sweet fruits. The digestive tract also breaks down other food substances, like starch, glycogen, and lactose, sucrose, into glucose. Glucose then enters the bloodstream by the intestinal wall. Excess glucose in the blood gets typically stored in the liver as glycogen.

It has long been known that sufficient glucose in the blood is the primary culprit behind diabetes complications, including retinal diseasenerve disease, and kidney disease. For this reason, those with diabetes should regularly monitor their blood glucose levels and try to keep them within the normal range.
