Women's Health Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Two drugs are usually prescribed for polycystic ovary syndrome. Metformin decreases insulin resistance, and birth control pills reduce the male hormones and start a menstrual cycle.

Along with medications, both PCOS and diabetes are managed with diet and exercise. PCOS symptoms have been observed to improve with a 5% loss of body weight. As including diabetes, we don’t understand whether it’s the weight loss or the actions that cause weight loss.

Several herbs are also tried. Different herbalists suggest that Dong Quai, licorice, and chaste tree berry for the hormonal symptoms, and the American Botanical Council lists more other options. Cinnamon, fenugreek, Gymnema, and bitter melon will help with insulin resistance. Observe that these herbs are also utilized for diabetes.

Self-management for PCOS:-

The website My PCOS Info and the book Natural Solutions to PCOS by nutritionist Marilyn Glenville, Ph.D., agree on some method to improve and manage life with PCOS:

• Cut down all refined carbohydrates.

• Eat more and more fiber.

• Do exercise regularly.

• Consume small frequent meals, i.e., Glenville says every three hours.

• Decrease or eliminate processed foods, alcohol, dairy products, caffeine, and trans fats.

• Avoid environmental chemicals, particularly plastics and pesticides.

• Both sources list herbs and supplements to try some they agree on are inositol, chromium, and vitamin D, and they both list many more.

See how similar this is to diabetes opinion, but there’s a lot more to living life with PCOS. For self-help data, check out My PCOS Info or Natural Health Solutions for PCOS.
