This test may be ordered as Flu A or Flu B, or Influenza A/B antibody titers. It may also be known as anti-Influenza A/B. The presence of IgG antibody usually indicates previous exposure, while IgM indicates a current acute infection. Blood specimen is serum. Methods vary with hemagglutination inhibition (HI) (HAI) being preferred for influenza A and complement fixation (CF) for influenza B. Other methods currently in use are immunofluorescent assay (IFA), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), radial immunodiffusion (RID), and enzyme immunoassay (EIA).
